Does the Eye-Able Assist contrast mode help to ensure WCAG compliance?
About the contrast mode
Eye-Able Assist includes a contrast mode that provides users with an alternative view of your website with higher contrast. This can support better readability and visibility for users who benefit from enhanced contrast settings.
How the contrast mode works
The contrast mode adjusts the visual presentation of your website. Key characteristics include:
- The toggle switch to activate contrast mode is designed with good contrast itself — ideally at least 7:1.
- The contrast view contains the same information as the standard view, ensuring no content is lost when the mode is active.
WCAG compliance
The contrast mode of Eye-Able Assist can support website operators in addressing the requirements of WCAG success criteria 1.4.3 (Contrast Minimum), 1.4.6 (Contrast Enhanced), and 1.4.11 (Non-text Contrast). Whether these criteria are met on a specific website depends on additional factors beyond the tool, including the underlying design and implementation of the website itself.
Our recommendation for implementation
The contrast mode is manually checked when the licence is transferred to your website and adjusted if necessary to ensure that all elements remain clearly visible.
We recommend making the contrast function accessible via an additional button that can be reached from all pages. A good position for this would be in the navigation or in a quick menu.
