Why does the behavior of Assist’s text zoom function differ in Firefox compared to Chrome and Edge?

Overview

The text zoom function in Assist may behave differently depending on the browser being used. In Chrome and Edge, a comprehensive zoom effect is applied, while in Firefox, only the font size is adjusted.

Background on Firefox Behavior

In Firefox, the CSS property required for zooming is not supported. Therefore, Assist cannot rely on the same technical approach that it uses in Chrome or Edge to scale the entire page. Instead, only the font size is increased.

This means:

  • In Chrome and Edge, Assist enlarges the content of the entire page. Both text and other page elements appear larger.

  • In Firefox, only the font size is adjusted. Images, buttons, or layouts remain unchanged.

Impact on Usage

The different technical implementations result in the text zoom function in Firefox being limited to text only.
Users who want a more comprehensive scaling of the entire page should use Chrome or Edge.
For users who only need larger text, the function in Firefox is sufficient.
