PDF score calculation

How is the PDF score calculated?

The PDF score in Eye-Able Report is a quality indicator that rates a PDF file based on the accessibility issues detected. It shows you at a glance how well your document meets the current PDF/UA and WCAG guidelines.

Starting point of the PDF score

Every PDF file starts with a score of 100%. This corresponds to a document with no detected issues.

How the score is reduced

For each issue detected in the PDF, the score is reduced by a certain number of points.

How many points are deducted depends on the severity (weighting) of the issue. Issues are categorised according to their level of impact. This determines how strongly a single issue affects the score:

  • Critical error (highest impact): 60 points
  • Error: 10–30 points
  • Warning: 2 points
  • Hint (lowest impact): 1 point

Issues with higher severity result in a greater reduction in the overall rating.

What a score of 0% means

A score of 0% means that so many points have been deducted that the PDF’s score is 0%.

Why the score can remain at 0% after improvements

If you improve your PDF and the score still shows 0%, there are still many issues present.

You have made improvements, but not enough issues have been fixed yet to bring the score above 0%.

This does not mean that your PDF has not improved. It simply shows that further corrections are needed before the score increases.
