Why is success criterion 4.1.1 'Parsing' no longer necessary in WCAG 2.2, and what are the implications of this?
Background
Success criterion 9.4.1.1 Syntax analysis is no longer necessary in the current WCAG version 2.2 and will also be removed with the next update of BITV/EN301549.
An independent source on this can be found here:
WCAG 2.2 – Success criterion 4.1.1 Parsing (obsolete and removed)
Why is the criterion being removed?
The criterion was originally introduced to address issues with the direct parsing of HTML by assistive technologies.
This is no longer necessary because:
- Assistive technologies no longer require direct syntax of HTML.
- The previous issues no longer occur or are covered by other criteria.
