What is the Difference Between "Critical", "Error", "Warning", and "Note" in PDF Validation?
The PDF analysis tool evaluates accessibility issues based on the accessibility guidelines of the PDF UA standard. To better classify the severity of individual errors, various labels are used: "Critical", "Error", "Warning", and "Hint". These terms are used to classify the errors and enable prioritization when addressing accessibility issues.
The different classifications help determine which issues should be addressed first, as they have varying impacts on the accessibility of a PDF.
Meaning of the Different Classifications:
-
Critical: These errors have a very high impact on accessibility and must be addressed immediately. They generally significantly impair the use of the PDF for people with disabilities and must be fixed without exception.
-
Error: Errors also have a significant impact on accessibility, though the impact is somewhat less severe compared to critical errors. They should also be prioritized for resolution to ensure accessibility.
-
Warning: Warnings indicate issues that may affect accessibility, but not as seriously as errors. They should still be reviewed and corrected if necessary.
-
Hint: Notes highlight smaller issues that have no immediate impact on accessibility but can be improved. They have the least impact and generally do not need to be fixed.
