The EU AI Act and the Eye-Able Software Solutions
As a user of the Eye-Able software solutions, is there anything I need to do to comply with the AI Act?
Since August 2, 2026, most of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 on Artificial Intelligence (the EU AI Act) has applied. Many customers wonder whether using the Eye-Able software solutions creates any obligations under this regulation. This article gives you an overview and points to the in-depth articles on each topic.
In brief
Under the current legal situation, the following applies to the Eye-Able software solutions (Assist, Audit, Translate, Plain Language, and Ally):
- The software uses no prohibited AI practices under Art. 5 of the AI Act.
- The software is not a high-risk AI system under Art. 6 in conjunction with Annex III of the AI Act.
- Simply using the software creates no independent, visible labeling obligation for you as a deployer under Art. 50 of the AI Act.
- The technical, machine-readable labeling of AI-generated content is Eye-Able's responsibility as the provider, not yours.
A defining feature of all AI-supported functions is that they assist in processing existing content that you are responsible for — for example by translating, simplifying, or reading it aloud. The editorial responsibility for the source content remains with you.
What is the EU AI Act about?
The EU AI Act is a European regulation governing the use of artificial intelligence. For users of the Eye-Able software solutions, the transparency and labeling obligation under Art. 50 of the AI Act is especially relevant. It has applied since August 2, 2026.
The regulation distinguishes between providers (who develop and supply an AI system — here Eye-Able) and deployers (who use an AI system — here you as the customer). Providers and deployers have different obligations.
